Alyne Harris (born 1943) has lived and worked in Gainesville, Florida, most of her life. As a child, she painted angels in the mud because she felt she was surrounded by heavenly creatures. As an adult, her paintings depict angels as well as slaves, religious scenes, lost loved ones, and emotionally charged landscapes. Her work has been included in many collections and books, including Souls Grown Deep: African American Vernacular Art of the South.
